Designed to crack soft to dense nuclei into four segments with minimal stretching of incision. The forceps shafts open to a maximum of 1.7mm at incision point. Tips open to 2.5mm. The shape of the tip makes rotation of the nucleus easier in the capsule bag.
Tip of instrument has a hooked shape that initially penetrates nucleus; squeeze forceps, tips open to crack and split nucleus. The narrow tip is easy to insert into denser nucleus. By flipping the forceps over, the blunt edge may be used to go deeper in initial split to fully split nucleus. Using blunt edge of tip reduces risk of damaging posterior capsule
