The new sapphire range of knives from Duckworth and Kent offer a cutting edge comparable to that of a diamond knife with a price less per surgical procedure than of a stainless steel surgical knife. The high density of the gem material allows for a durable, very sharp precision edge that reduces trauma to the wound and improves recovery time following surgery.
Fixed Bladed Sapphire Microsurgical Knives for Multi-use Durability
A multi-use sapphire blade fixed to a lightweight aluminium colour coded handle, providing perfect balance and grip. Supplied in fully autoclavable sterilizing trays.

Limbal Relaxing Incision (LRI) Sapphire Knives
The sapphire blades have a sharp precision edge that are comparable to a diamond, therefore making it a suitable economical alternative LRI knife.
The LRI Sapphire Knives are preset to a 600 micron depth and come in two handle lengths, standard (ref: 4-4-621S) and short (ref: 4-4-621SS). The short variant has been designed primarily as an economical free hand LRI knife for use at the slit lamp, giving a comparable incision to that of a diamond.
Phaco Angled Lance Sapphire Knives

A precision cut sapphire gemstones with multi-use durability that reduces trauma to the wound and improves recovery time following surgery. The sapphires are mounted in screw fitting titanium carriers and are supplied in sterilizing trays. The sapphires' titanium carrier is screwed into a titanium retractable handle
(ref: 4-4-000), allowing for an economical method of different blade configurations to suit procedural needs or preferences.

To fit a blade, simply insert the handle in the unguarded position through the guide in the end of the tray and screw finger tight onto the blade carrier. Open the tray lid into the locked position and remove blue safety packaging. Then gently lever the handle down against the edge of the tray to release the blade. Immediately guard the blade by retracting into handle and lock the handle when not in use.
